“First flutists rarely tell the stories of the piccolo” writes Nancy Nourse.  “Neither do entries in music dictionaries and encyclopaedias, which in Darwinian fashion, seem to recount only the details of progress that have led to today’s standard-sized Boehm flute.  Therefore, what little we do know about the piccolo is likely based upon our current lived experience as players.”
