Israeli jazz flutist Mattan Klein, a member of Jazz Flute Big Band International, has been quite the world traveller recently.
Born and raised in Jerusalem, Mattan studied at the Rubin Academy in Jerusalem, and graduated with honors from the Berklee College of Music in Boston.
He has performed at venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York, the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, the London and Tel Aviv Jazz Festivals and the Israel Festival in Jerusalem,. He ran the 4 Flute Flight ensemble in New York, has issued several recordings under his own name and his original compositions have earned him awards such as the John Lennon Songwriting Contest and the USA Songwriting Competition.
A gifted ensemble instructor and an original arranger, Mattan teaches and gives clinics and workshops across Israel, including the prestigious Thelma Yellin High School for Performing Arts. He is the music director and producer at the Hof Hasharon Regional Council.
Mattan recently appeared IMEP Paris Collage of Music student union *Bop Art” concert.
Mattan is planning a visit to the UK in early May, as he is en route to a performance in Chicago, USA. He will be meeting with the Jazz Flute Big Band (or Jazz Flute Small Band!) and Harmonia Books & Music to work on arrangements to be published.
