Timothy Day & Student

Timothy Day, principle flute of the San Francisco Symphony offers a masterclass during the Music Academy of the West 2015 summer school.

Mr. Day takes students through several of J.S. Bach‘s flute sonatas. Brandon LePage plays the Sonata in C Major BWV 1033, accompanied by Natasha Kisienko on piano.

Following this, Mr. Day provides some background on the baroque flute which is then demonstrated by Bethanne Walker  playing Bach’s A Minor Partita BWV 1013.

Next up we return to the modern flute as Annie Wu plays the flute sonata in B Minor BWV 1030. (Margaret McDonald piano)

Finally, we hear the E Minor Sonata BWV 1034 played by Mark Teplisky, with Margaret McDonald again at the piano.

Mr. Day betrays a light touch as he guides the students, and provides a valuable commentary on the repertoire.
