Harmonia Books & Music‘s new publication Close Encounters: Jazz Sebastian Bach by Uri Brener received its London premiere Tuesday June 27th. The performance was by flautist Rachel Smith accompanied by band members of the elete British army Guards Regiment as part of their 2017 music festival. The pianist was Chris Day, the bassist Jerelle Jacobs and Neil Brocklehurst played drums. Performing in the beautifully appointed Royal Military Chapel, the quartet opened with a specially arranged suite of Gershwin tunes, before launching into the Brener suite. Given the limited rehearsal time the group had (Smith was one of the festival organisers) they brought it off with a demonstration of the high level of musicianship characteristic of the guards regiment’s musicians.
The festival continues through July 2nd, full details below plus a clip of the piece performed by Noam Buchman with the composer at the piano.
The Jazz Sebastian Bach sheet music is due to be released in time for the National Flute Association 2017 convention in Minneapolis, MN, where it is to receive its US premiere by flutist Tereasa Payne
